Ben Wysong from LifePointe Christian Church in Elk Grove, CA brings us their homemade Christmas particles stage design.
The light panels were made out of Compressed Styrofoam that was then painted black. 1 panel was two 4’x8′ styrofoam panels taped together. They took Christmas lights and poked them through the styrofoam at random to give it a “starry night” feel. Each panel took about 6 boxes of 300 lights. They were standing by a wood frame that was built, and then tacked in at the top. The fabric around the wood frame was fabric that the church already had.
They purchased the two paper mache words HOPE and JOY from Joanns, and spray painted them gold. They were attached to the wall with outdoor mounting tape. Then they wrapped their Christmas trees with burlap, and scattered them around the stage for that further Christmas feel.
Awesome, inexpensive and did I say, awesome job.
The entire room looked incredible & the lights on those panels was genius. Drew our eyes up & up & up!
This looks great. Did you make the “Hope” and “Joy” or purchase it as is and just paint it?
We purchased the HOPE and JOY from Joann’s we painted them with gold spray paint!
Where did you get the lights? Were they already individual?
I got the lights from Walmart! packs of 300- I believe I got 10 packs and we just poked them through! They were not individual
Where did you get the Styrofoam?
I would also like to know- where did you get the foam boards? I am in love with this and want to create one for my sister in laws wedding backdrop! please let me know!

Awesome t-shirt! Coincidentally I was in line at a Tremonti show last Wednesday when my wife found this article and sent it to me.
Are they foam insulation boards?
Yes they are foam insulation boards from home depot!
Did u just poke the lights threw or did u use something to poke the lights threw the board?? Thanks I got to make one
all I did was poke the lights through! it was pretty easy!
What kind of paint did you use on the board? Thanks!
We just used flat black interior paint!
Thank you for the share! Great, easy project I can’t wait to try.
Hi! I’m trying to tell if there was black sheer fabric laid on top of the lights?
WOOOW THATS GREAT
wooooooooow thats great
We’re the lights solar so you didn’t have to plug them into a power point?
Did the Christmas lights get too hot for the board at all? I’m thinking of this same idea, but with my church’s VBS which is galaxy-themed. I’m afraid that the Christmas lights will heat up too much which may pose a problem.
