Windows to a Starry Night

Jennifer Tribble from Victory Church of Lethbridge in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, brings us this design for their series “Kickstart My Heart”.

To create this set they dropped some light bulbs on wires from their ceiling along with old grunge-stained window panes.

I love everything about this stage design! The window frames seem to float in the space of a dark night sky. The windows give the impression of seeing through a portal into some distant place. And The cool graphics look like they are straight out of an old Farmers Almanac. It’s got an almost “Wizard of Oz” feel to it. Good work Victory Church!

Love the chalk design, which I assume is digital design & projected. How might someone get their hands on that image?

Hi Heidi I´m wondering about the projectors, are in front of the wall? because I cant see any shadows on it? I´m very interested on this setup, Its Amazing!! I want something similar in my church, but has a llitle stage and a brick wall behind, it is impossible to set proyectors behind. I hope you can gimme a little help I´ll be grateful GOD Bless You!!

    • We have the same problem. Although we have a very large stage and therefore were able to create the large screen you see by drywalling over the cinderblock and painting it paint. We have two front projectors (Eiki LCX85 projectors – 7000 lumens). If you look on the full stage shots you will see the 2 projects sitting before the truss at about 24′ away from the screen. The size of the screen (36′ wide by 14.5′ high) was too small to require 3 projectors but its a little tight with just the 2. We use ProPresenter with a Matrix DualHead2Go for the proper split screening. We stay a few feet away from the back wall, our lights are set against the floor so that helps, otherwise the image will appear on our bands faces which is a little weird lol. It means most of our extra stage design are limited to the front parts of the stage or the side walls as you will notice in any of our photos. We get creative when hanging stuff from the truss as well for the same reason otherwise it puts shadows on the screen.

Every design has its strengths and weakness. Choose what works best for your church. You learn to work around the challenges, and play to your strengths.
