Stage Designs

Wheelies

Stewart Linthicum from Albuquerque’s First Baptist Church in Albuquerque, NM brings us this bike wheel stage design. (originally posted May 2016)

This stage backdrop was designed to support a recent sermon series that focused on bicycles. They wanted to create a design that reinforced the theme without placing a lot of bikes on the stage.

The solution was to take the wheel element and make a wall. They found an old bike shop in town that recycled parts and allowed them to take 50 wheels from their store. They built four frames, 4’x7′, out of 2x4s. They attached the frames to casters, and then they began adding the wheels to the pieces.

They used zip ties to secure the wheels to the frames and linked each together to maintain a uniformed piece.

The entire project moved very quickly. The assembly of the wheels took about 2 hours once the frames were built.

The fact that the wheels were zip-tied meant that once the series concluded they could remove the wheels and use the frames for other projects.
