Throwback: Wallpaper Your Stage

Alex Alexander at Lake Hills Church in Austin, Texas found these awesome wallpaper bits from MIO called PaperForms.

They attached the PaperForms to a wall consisting of 4 individual sections on a 15′ diameter curve. Each section of the wall is 6′ (w) x 8′ (h) and constructed of 2″ x 4″ frame with Luan plywood forming the curved wall. Since the tiles from Mio are 12″ x 12″, they laid out a grid on each wall using double sided carpet tape.

After all the tiles were placed on each section in a random sort of pattern, they shot it with a coat of white latex primer (about 2.5 gallons).

To light the walls they used 4 Chauvet COLORado Batten 72 LED’s. Plus when they get bored with the unified wall, they’ll be able to separate the sections and move them around the stage to create new looks.

Also notice how cool the PaperForms look on camera.

Cool design…I'd like to know what that is at the top of the stage walls….the lines?? How did you make those and how are they lit?

  2. Alex says:

Rob, that is metal siding that is picking up the LED light from the floor. Totally unintentional, but definitely lends to the effect.

    • Mr. Alex,

I am the finance manager for my church and saw this website. I really love the wallpaper stage design idea. I was under the impression that this website actually makes the wallpaper is that true? If so I am wanting to place an order for purchase. Please email me back as soon as you possibly can thanks!

I was curious, did you stick w/ the natural color on these panels or did you paint them?

    • They added some primer to the panels…so it probably ended up being white when it was all done. (Sure looks yellow to me though. :-P)

  6. Ryan says:

How did they put the curve into the luan plywood so it keeps its shape.

    • pastoralex says:

Ryan, we built a curved frame out of 2X4's and nailed the luan to the 2X4's. Sounds simple, but we have quite a skilled carpenter.

  7. Josh Lindsey says:

How much did this design cost?

  8. John Fones says:

Josh, the wall cost about $1000 for all of the materials. We also purchased 4 of these lights (http://www.chauvetlighting.com/coloradobatten-72-tour.html) and they ran about $750 a piece. Let me know if you have any questions!

  9. Jason Ramsey says:

Love the design!! Like your stand too. Where did you buy it?
    Keep up the creative work!

  10. GOOD WORK, BEAUTIFUL WALLPAPERS.
