Stage Designs

Segment Windows

Becca Matthews from Catalyst in Evansville, IN brings us this stage design for their series “My Bad Church Experience”.

The graphic in the middle showed a stain glass effect. To carry that theme throughout, they made stained glass panels for both sides of the series graphic.

They took two panels of white 4 ft. x 8 ft. Foam Insulating Sheathing and cut them in half to 2ft. x 8 ft. with a hot knife. Then they cut the top off each panel, curving it up to a point in the center, to look like a stained glass window. Then they used electrical tape to simulate the different shapes of glass that made up the window.

They up lit each panel to simulate sunlight coming through. The total cost was approximately $12 per sheet of insulation and $2.50 in electrical tape. Total cost, under $30.

I am interim preaching at a church and we are looking for a way to decorate a large window directly above the stage. This would be effective for softening the light coming through the window and look for better than curtains. Thanks for the idea!

Were the panels front lit or back lit? Thanks
