Portable Plates

Bryan Tabb from New Church in Winston-Salem, NC brings us this simple portable set.

This design had to be light and compact due to the fact that they’re a portable church. They constructed the frames with cheap, thin 1x2s from Home Depot. Then they stapled cheap Coroplast (painted black) to the frame, and superglued square paper plates to them. They hung them like you would hang a picture frame, but instead of hanging on a wall, they used portable church pipe and drape bases and tall poles. To get them to hang, they mounted a 1x 4 to each pole using U shaped hardware and simple placed screws where the picture hanging hardware needed to go. They hit them with some cheap Par lights and you got a set that costs them about 100 dollars.

  1. We have a tight and I mean TIGHT budget for backdrops/sets for a unequal sized large stage. Thanks for this idea!

How can I get the materials for something like this

I did this on a previous stage of ours and I ordered the plates on ebay. We used about 450 plates and simply stapled them to the black wall. The cost was about $350.00.

    What size are the plates?
