Stage Designs

Portable Lines

Nick Hill from Xperience Church in Defiance, Ohio brings us this portable stage design. (originally posted January 2016)

This stage design was inspired by the artwork on the newest Hillsong United Album, Empires, and it was really easy and cost effective to do. They have metal frames that they use to attach most of their stage designs to since they’re a portable church. They have 2 six foot frames and 4 five foot frames. Nick knew they wanted to use strips of Coroplast to give the effect but they needed a way to attach them to the frames and also provide a back to them so you couldn’t see through them. So they had a seamstress in the church sew felt slip covers for the six frames, which cost them less than $30 because they found felt on sale. Next they took Coroplast and cut strips 2″ wide. They spaced them 1″ apart on the frames. They used velcro to attach the Coroplast strips to the felt on the frames. Then they used megabars to light them as well. They were able to construct this whole set for less than $50 and only used 1 (4×8) sheet of Coroplast.

First off great design. I was wondering what kind of light bars did you use? Are they the 252 led light bars or the 320 led light bars? Your answer is great appreciated.

What type of metal frames did you use? Were these built or purchased? Where were they purchased from or how how were they built? Thanks so much!

Where did you get your Coroplast. Any place locally I can find is charging $30 per sheet.

How are the lights setup behind the stands/fabric? Do you have any pictures on the lights sitting behind the fabric?

Hey Nick! Do you have any pictures of the stands themselves without the cover or anything? Also, did you guys build them yourselves or purchase them?

  9. Vince says:

2 questions. 1. How wide are they? I’m guessing 3 feet? 2. Approximately how much fabric was used to cover these?

Still waiting for the answer on the metal frames. Can you tell us if you made them or bought them? If so, how did you make them or where did you buy them from? Thanks!

I would like measurements on frames please and pics w/o cloth. I was thinking of using metal across the frame instead of cloth. Also are work lights the metal ones with clamp on back?
