Plated Hearts

Will Gage from Sugar Land Baptist Church in Sugar Land, TX brings us this heart structure made from plates.

Once a year we are able to take over the large sanctuary and use it for worship for their DNOW event. This year they chose to keep it simple and take a minimalistic approach. After some searching on Church Stage Design Ideas, Will came across some ideas from 3 different groups. They took coroplast and built two small stubby square light columns. Housed in the columns were one K9 Pup. The LED light was not at all hot and gave a great effect.

Also they took PVC pipe and made a “truss” that the large heart hung from. This heart was made from white, plastic plates (like you get at Party City). They cost approximately $13 for a pack of 50. Then they used a hole punch and punched the top and bottom of each plate. They sped up the process by having more than one person punching holes. Next, each plate was arranged on the floor to get the heart shape and positioning figured out. Then they began to tie them in strands with 40lb fishing line. Aircraft line from Lowe’s was then used to hang up the PVC truss and then they began to hang the pieces of the heart. They lit the heart with different colors and then the back wall and stage was a contrasting color.

The budget was limited, but they were able to do everything for less than $100. This took approximately 2, 1/2 days to setup.
