Throwback: Pinstripes

Jeremy Framstad at Grace Community Church in Fremont, Ohio brings us a backlit linear piece for folks with white back walls. (Originally posted May 2012)

For Easter they wanted to do some of the things they saw on CSDI. But they have a white backdrop, making it tough to use front lighting like so many designs on CSDI use. So they made something they could light from behind.

They made each of the six sections separate from each other so their wouldn’t be color bleed from section to section. It all hung on a truss frame work that was anchored to the floor and the back wall. The sections were divided with foil-backed, 4×8 sheets of polystyrene insulation. There were two 3watt x 12 LED Fixtures in each section. All the black lines were 1/4″ plywood cut at different widths and stapled to 2x2s that were attached to the truss. The “colored” part was a translucent film from Kodak that they use a lot. Other things like Natural Coroplast would work as well.

With all the materials they spent about $800.00. It took a crew of four about four days to set it up.

We have a white back wall. I don’t like it at all. Awesome idea though.

What is the name of the translucent film from Kodak that is used here? Thank you for your time.
