Special Event Design

Home Run Life

Stevan Sheets from Hyde Wesleyan Church in Clearfield, PA brings us this high school baseball-type stage design.

They wanted to jump-in visually to support their sermon series entitled “Home Run Life”, and a baseball-theme made the most sense.

Their sanctuary is diamond-shaped, so it helped them think along these lines. They asked folks to bring in their baseball pennants and any other baseball-related stuff to help them decorate.

They borrowed three pieces of portable fencing (8×10) from a local bank that was having some construction work done and happened to have a few extra pieces they allowed them to borrow free-of-charge. Much of the baseball-related gear came from a local sports retailer that they had connections with through some of their people.

They cut a large 6-foot circle out of brown indoor/outdoor carpet and placed a white-strip of duct tape in the center to serve as a pitching mound. It sat in the center of their sanctuary. They placed actual bases over each door to emphasize the series-messages and taped a roll of receipt paper around the entire sanctuary to serve as a “base line” between the bases. They asked their congregation to come dressed in their favorite baseball-team gear and each of their pastors wore baseball jerseys to preach through the series.
