Christina Roberts from Cross Point Church in Ava, MO brings us this down home Christmas design.
Their theme this year was Down Home Christmas. They wanted a simple design with an extremely low budget. In the foyer, they decorated with pinecones (picked up from the park), small simple trees with no ornaments (borrowed), antlers tipped in gold and rustic decor (borrowed from a member’s wedding decorations). Christina painted the chalkboard sign on a piece of thin board and repurposed a simple barn wood frame from her home. The packages were wrapped in brown packing paper and tied with jute.
On the stage, they created a large chalkboard by making two 4′ x 8′ boxes out of 1 x 4s and luan. Their Christmas logo was projected on the boxes and then painted. The black boxes were then mounted on the wall with brackets and Christmas trees were placed on either side. The borrowed Christmas trees were decorated with pine cone garland and corduroy stars. The unique element of the stage was their electrical spools. Their electric coop saved these for them, but they needed to ask in advance. The trees were bolted to the spools for height and stability. A center spool was decorated with a smaller tree flanked by old rocking chairs. Antique paned windows were placed strategically around the stage propped against brown paper packages. Their actual cost was under $50 because they reused everything including the 4 x 8 chalkboard boxes.
This was so simple but beautiful. It gave a “cozy” feel to the sanctuary.
