DIY Yarn Balls

Ben Stapley from South Ridge Community Church in Clinton, NJ brings us these fun DIY yarn balls. (originally posted November 2015)

One of their team members found small decorative balls on sale. These are the type of balls that are the right size for a table centerpiece but too small for a stage design. So the team member decided to DIY some yarn balls. They always try to scale their designs as large as they can so they feel appropriate on their stage. To accomplish this, they used 6-foot wide beach balls as the support system for the yarn.

They mixed 1 part water to 2 parts cornstarch for the glue. Then applied it to the string while wrapping the string around the beach balls. Once it all dried, they deflated the beach balls, removed them, then hung the yarn balls from the ceiling.

Our fire marshall would fine us so much for that.

Over yarn hanging from the ceiling? Curious as to where you are from.
