Mike TenHaken from Word Of Grace Community Church in Sheboygan Falls, WI brings us this great text overlaying a crown of thorns.
They started the design with a 7-foot diameter crown Of thorns made from hand railing that Mike bought at Home Depot. He started by making a seven foot circle on the floor of his basement. From there he began making random miter cuts on the hand railing to form a circle. He chose to make four revolutions, each equaling 28 feet in circumference, and all four were intertwined together and screwed at random locations to strengthen the piece.
Once that part was finished he started making thorns. Each thorn was anywhere from 8 to 18 inches in length. These were also cut from hand railing. He ran them free-hand on a tablesaw until each piece represented a cone shape. Then he planed each of them down until smooth and sanded them until they looked like thorns. There are 74 thorns.
In front of the crown he hung the word “BEAUTIFUL” on pieces of painted plywood which was made to look like broken shards.
Cost for the stage: about $250 to $300.
Wow! What an amazing visual piece. How did you get the idea?
Great Job!!
It was truely “God Inspired”. The idea came simply from a picture of Jesus wearing the crown. I hope it inspires!
Mike, I was wondering how big this was? And how much it weighed? I am assuming you just hung it with some wire?
Thanks for the feedback! It’s so awesome. I really want to do it for our Easter backdrop!
