Brandon Carr from The River Community Church in Hartland, Michigan brings us this fun use of wood and MDF.
This was for the beginning of their capital campaign. They needed something different that tied in the marketing elements of a construction site and the targets of a certain color palette.
They made the pallet screens out of 2X4’s and 1/4″ MDF. The center screen was 9X12 feet and the side panels were 7X5.
They meet in a performing arts theater, so they had some flyware they rigged the hanging pallets to with safety cables (wire rope) and shackles hooked into some screw eyes on the tops of the hanging ones. The other 2 on the floor were standing on simple frames painted black to help them disappear.
They painted the screen pallet white to ensure clarity of graphics, but did one rough coat to make sure it still looked unfinished. Then they lit the set with MAC 250’s, and LED par cans.
It took his builder about 10 hours to complete, and about $400 in lumber.
Generally I always cringe when I hear someone is using pallets for stage design. This however, actually looks pretty amazing :)
