Stage Designs

Tube Time!

Justin Edmonds and Jason Christensen from Resurrection Life Church in Grandville, MI brings us these cool homemade tube lights. (originally posted March 2016)

This stage was in their youth room. They built it for their youth conference called One Heart. They have a weird shape for a stage since it is in the corner. So they wanted to do something that would flatten out the stage. They had a budget of $1000 and spent $500 of it on the design and rented $500 worth of lights.

They wanted to make it more theater style so it was extremely light. The side pieces are made from 2×2 wood and Coroplast plastic. The tubes were translucent PVC-type pipes. They purchased 10 packs of LED tape along with the DMX controllers.

They also got connectors for when they needed to cut the LED tape.

The center behind the drums was the same plastic just made with 2×4 wood instead for stability.

Awesome and great low-budget enhancement. Where was the “translucent PVC type pipe” obtained? That is a great find!
    Thanks for sharing.

  2. I was wondering the same thing as Mark, where did the translucent pipe come from?

    Thanks

    Greg

  4. Ben says:

Hey! What kind of lights do you have in the tubes?

  5. Steven says:

How long are these pipes? 4ft?

Hey all, I contacted the manufacturer and asked for a sample of the 1-1/2″ translucent pipe – it is awesome! I also found out that these pipes (unless customized) are 60″ long and come 64 to a box (in this 1-1/2″ size at least). I want to order some but I may not need that many! I’m going to rig up my sample with some lights to see how it works. not sure how i’m going to keep the light strip straight within the tube but i’ll work on that.

When you say you used “Translucent” tubes, are those the same as the clear tubes found on the site that you provided a link to?

  7. Ben Aguilar says:

Hey! I was looking at the pic of the lights you rented. Can you share the list of lights you all got? Thanks a bunch.

  8. Christopher Watts says:

What size coroplast panels are these and where did you guys get them?

  9. Mark Manley says:

Justin, how did you attach the tubes to the wood backing? I’m really excited by your concept and i’m working on a project now :-)

  10. Mark Manley says:

Justin – I saw it now – simple screws in each end. Simple!
