Ship Ahoy!

This stage design was used in May of 2009 at First Assembly of God in Cedar Rapids, IA and created by Duke Dejong.  It utilized curved 4′ x 4′ coroplast squares in columns with circular hanging lamp shades from IKEA under the projection screen.  The entire design was supported by a 1 foot box trussing connected at the top with black painted 1 1/2″ pipe.   Continue Reading…

They are so inexpensive yet so cool…plus you can get them in pretty large sizes which work well for stages. We’ve started using them at the Summit Church to light the room, but here are some examples of paper lanterns used for stage designs:

Weird Waves

Looking for a modern artsy stage design? Mark Yakey at Manchester Christian Church knocked another one out of the park with this design. The wavy panels were made from Masonite. You could make them with plywood or foam, though (foam would be lighter to hang). They got the paper lanterns from Ikea, though paperlanternstore.com is a great source for inexpensive paper lanterns.
