Swoop There it Is

Mike Foudy from Green Acres Baptist Church/CrossWalk Worship in Tyler, TX brings us this nice us of stretchies.

They had a bunch of stretch fabric lying around, so they started loosely hanging them from the ceiling to see what they could make. They wanted them to hang a bit loosely so they’d have some swag.

They lit them from the catwalk with Elektralite PaintCans and ColorKinetics Colorblast 12 fixtures. The trusses (Applied Electronics Medium-grade truss) were being lit from the bottom with German Light Products LED Base4 Truss Toners. Movers were Elektralite my575.4 spots, with Elektralite PaintCans as overhead/back lighting color washes.

Impressive! How much did it cost to get the fabric to the shape you have it? And where are your LED’s on the fabric located?

  2. Mike Foudy says:

The stretchies were purchased in the shapes they’re in. I purchased some of them from Dazian and some from Sew What. Some are triangles and some are rectangles. The German Light Products Base4 LED’s that are lighting the truss are inside the bottom of the truss sections. The two middle pieces of fabric and two outside pieces of fabric are lit from above with ColorKinetics ColorBlast 12’s, and the other 4 pieces of fabric are lit with the Elektralite PaintCans from above.

Looks Great! What did you use to hold the corners of your fabric up?

    • Mike says:

Sorry. Just now saw this reply from Barry. We have a cyc pipe upstage just in front of the rear traveler that was there for a cyc originally, but mid-construction they changed to a rear-projection center screen (screen downstage), so the cyc was eliminated from the plan. We use the pipe to hang ‘elements’ from. So most everything we hang from it with tie line, then to get other points hung (extreme S/L and S/R) I used a variety of lengths of safety cables attached to catwalk pipes.

Looks great! Is the fabric used white color?

Fantastic blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring writers?
I’m hoping to start my own site soon but I’m a little lost on everything.

Would you advise starting with a free platform like WordPress or
go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m completely overwhelmed .. Any recommendations? Thank you!
