String Art Installation

Jordan Greene for The Vine Community Church in Cumming, GA brings us this string art installation.

To create this, they used an overhead projector to trace out the letters in pencil. Then they outlined each letter in screws—with one inch spacing all throughout.

Materials:

  • 3 Sheets of 3/4″ Sanded plywood – $31.98 per (Painted to match the wall)
  • 3 Spools of Colored Yarn – $3.99 per
  • 2 Spools of White Cotton Twine – $13.00 per
  • Approx 550 Screws
  • Approx 4,000 ft of string

Do you remember what ply of string you used for this project and where you got it from?

Can they be light up/glow in the dark? and can they be put on dividers?

    • Voss, Throwing some spotlights on the string will definitely catch the fibers of the string really well but not “glow in the dark” per say.

I’m not sure what you’re asking when you say dividers? If the piece had to be split so that it could separate on a consistent basis – the seams would either have to placed where there is not string or the string artist would need to add a couple screws to the inside of the letters and make to not overlap to the other panel! It would look as uniform but if the piece was large enough – you would probably never notice!
