Throwback: Porch Light Blinders

Nathan Hall from Greentree Christian Church in Rolla, MO brings us these porch light blinder pieces. (Originally posted June 2014)

This set was inspired by the Keith Urban and Gary Clark Jr. performance at at the 2014 Grammy’s. The centerpiece of the design was the exposed, antique light bulb light boxes. They were plywood frames, stained and covered with light sockets. They were held up by black iron pipe frames.

To fill up the remaining space, Nathan built some frames that held horizontal wooden slats. He also hung some additional antique light bulbs from the ceiling to carry the visual theme a bit further. The lumber was the most expensive element since he bought nice pieces of wood to give it a more finished look.

The piping was the next most expensive element of the design. He used varying, pre-cut lengths from his local hardware store and fittings to build the frames. The next biggest expense with the lightbulbs. They ran about $8 a piece. And there were a lot of them!
