They decided to dip their toes into the LED light tape world for the first time. What they didn’t want for this design was to see the light source. Their designer came up with the idea of cutting slots (with a router) in 3″ PVC. The PVC was cut to length (6′, 8′ and 10′ lengths). They made a jig, used a router to make the slots, and then gaff taped the LED tape inside the PVC pipe. The pipes were hung with 235 lb test black line and the DMX extension ran along the black string up to the controller. Each strip of tape could be controlled independently.

The luan plywood was from a previous design. It was hung with the same black line and then connected with silver chain links.

… other scenic lighting components… ADJ mega par’s, ADJ Z7 movers and other conventional fixtures.

Because they didn’t have any components to make this happen (decoders, light tape, or power supplies), the overall cost was much higher than they would typically spend on a 5-week series. They spent about $800 in all. Big picture, they consider it an addition to their arsenal and will be using the same components in stage designs moving forward.
