Piles of Metal

Matt Hemmele at Northwoods Community Church in Peoria, IL brings us this colorful design.

The metallic elements were created with fourteen 6′ galvanized steel panels connected together with steel chain. Matt attached 1 1/8-inch steel studs cut to length around their band platforms to give it a more edgy look.

He lit the steel studs with some American DJ RGB Techno Strobes and uplit the steel panels with Source Four Pars with an Apollo Color Scroller in the front. The entire set is lit with conventional fixtures aside from the few LED fixtures.

Nothing specific to note about this design, but I do really like seeing the design without any special lighting. Hope the trend continues in the posts to come.

I'm not sure how to achieve the visible beams of light without movers. I have nothing but conventional lights as well, but don't see the beams when lit on Sunday's. How can I do this? Is there a hazer in operation in these pictures?

yes haze will show the light. It wiil look like colored clouds or fog. takes pinpoint lights or movers to really see the beams

Yes, there is a hazer in operation. I am using a Radiance Hazer by Le Maitre, if all you have is conventional lights, I would highly recommend using a haze machine, it will completely change the way your lighting design looks.

Hey John, even moving lights need haze. I am using a Radiance Hazer made by Le Maitre, but really depending on your space, any hazer will work.

Most beam effects will be movers simply because you'll need to move them quite often and will want to change the beam effect and location. There are some great lower end beam fixtures out there now from Chauvet and ADJ.

i like the breakups in the cans on the back floor. they look great. did you buy gobos for those? or is that a homemade cover?
