Kids/Youth Designs

Off the Map

Tyler Perkins from Atlantic Shores Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, VA brings us this cool VBS stage design.

For VBS this year, they did Lifeway’s “Journey Off The Map.” They had over a dozen volunteers help over two weeks time to put up the set in their Worship Center. The main design was created by Crystal Tuxhorn and Ann Mannix. Their maintenance team built the two tree houses out of existing platforms, just adding the walls, roofs, and raising them off the ground. Their team of volunteers worked hours cutting out and painting jungle pieces from paper and foam board. They rented the backdrop and attached a giant paper tree to it. Tyler used American DJ Par64 LED cans to light the backdrop, as well as a Chauvet Eclipse with the laser portion turned off to give the waterfall the effect that it was moving. Elation DLED 36 Tri Bricks were placed under the tree houses and bridge and within both tree houses. The team crinkled up rolls of paper to act as branches and random boxes, crates, and cases were placed throughout the stage to give the look of a scientist lab in the jungle. In addition to the Worship Center, their Kids Thang theater, Cove Theater (kindergarten worship room), Fellowship Hall, Student Ministry Center, and all of the hallways were decorated to appear like different areas in the jungle.
