Stage Designs

LED Pixel Wall

Steven Hall, creator of the ModScenes Stage Design Panels, from Journeychurch.tv in Norman, OK brings us this stage design for their back to school celebration. (originally posted May 2016)

They created a lobby atmosphere that included oversized game boards, a giant Jenga sculpture, and interactive lawn games.

In the auditorium, they created a low res LED wall.

They only purchased a small amount of gear for this set, most of which was for the support structure. They recycled a lot of their material for this set from their Rock Boxes set. About half of their LED tape was from the Rock Boxes set.

The new tape they did purchase was the GLP Scenex 30m LED tape driven by GLP PP4 drivers. They used a PC running Madrix Professional to drive their content.

They built an upstage truss that was 20′ lengths of unistrut hung from a giant grid. They of course covered each with LED tape. They used some Mega Claw clamps to allow them to swing down the unistrut as they flew the truss out.

They built their grid in two 10′ sections. Once they had placed braces and all their lighting, they zip-tied tape onto the unistrut verticals. They spaced each vertical out 18″ from the next. At the bottom of their first 10′ section, they added a horizontal brace to help them keep their spacing. Their unistrut grid also supported their LED fixtures.

Once the top layer was wired and hung, they flew up the grid and added another 10′ of unistrut to finish the “wall”. They left a 16′ x 10′ gap for their center screen to hang in.

The LED wall was incredibly flexible and you can create a ton of visuals with it. But, you can still also have great lighting positions too.
