Geometric Energy

Jesse Engler from Grace Avenue Church in San Antonio, Texas brings us these floating geometric pieces. (Originally posted July 2014)

These set pieces were quite simply made with PVC piping, Coroplast, and cellophane.

Jesse started by making traditional Coroplast towers for a previous set design. He used 7 pieces of 4×8′ natural Coroplast to create the eight boxes (two boxes were half sized). He then cut them all down to a smaller size for this set design, and placed them over 8 LED flat panel lights.

He then created six boxes using PVC pipe (which he cut to about 2′ long each) and connectors. He built the boxes, then crumpled cellophane to hang in the center of the boxes. These “energy orbs” were suspended with fishing line. Then he used fishing line to suspend the geometric boxes.

Because of the positioning of the boxes under the Coroplast towers, he lit two pieces with one light. Very efficient!

    This is Unique! How did you secure the Coroplast towers together? Did you score each sheet of Coroplast to form the corners or did you cut each panel individually in 4 parts and secure them together?

      We scored them…actually…we cut out a channel of the corrugated part…then folded them in on themselves. This actually made them very sturdy…then we used packing tape to hold them together.

    Hot Glue works well to hold them together too.

  3. How many of the coroplast sheets did you buy? Do you have the dimensions on those boxes?
