Christmas Designs

Framed Trees

Angela Yee from University Covenant Church in Davis, California brings us this beautiful, simple Christmas stage design. (originally posted February 2014)

They started by purchasing a star LED curtain (this was over half their budget). They hung that up. Then they added sheers on the sides and Christmas lights behind the sheers.

They found out the LED curtain was too short to cover the whole gap of their back wall, so they used all the Christmas trees they had on hand (and one they bought for $6) to cover the gap at the bottom. They added lights to the trees to give them another element of brightness.

They also used zip ties to create crisscrosses with the lights on the sheer because the lights going straight up and down looked a bit bland.

They added a glitter-spray-painted metal star at the top of the stage to symbolize the journey of the Magi.

They lit the set with non-LED Par 64s and Fresnel lights which were 12 feet from the fabric.

Check out Angela’s post on her blog for more details and to see an injury she sustained in the making.

Ya know, This design turned out very elegant and simple. Great work. I always say you can’t go wrong with Christmas trees and white lights. Classic.

Where did you get your curtain lights from, and how big is it?
