Everything Marious

What do you think of when you hear the David Crowder Band? Mario Brothers? I thought so. I thought it would be fun to make a motion background for the song Everything Glorious Mario Bros style. It went over really well at the Summit Church in Corpus Christi, Texas…so I figured I’d share it here for you to download as well. Hope you find it useful!

This is worthless. It absolutely does nothing to point to the truth of the text–just a big ol' cutesy distraction. I wouldn't care, but it is the epitome of entertainment worship that causes people to be wary of true creativity in the church. If you have any respect for church creativity and the reputation of your site, you need to remove it, or use it as a teachable "what not to do" moment.

"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."

There might be a valid point in there Stu, but your heart is in the wrong place, so no one will listen.

Why be so negative? I think it breaks the same thing that we see each and every Sunday morning or Sunday night. Something that is unexpected, to keep things fresh, new and make people smile :) No Worship isn’t about entertainment but at the same time it’s not about a routine, and for a David Crowder Band song it’s fits perfectly :)

Stu I don't see the distraction in this at all. As a matter of fact, it is rather laid back in comparison to some of the worship videos I have seen created and used in churches around the nation. I really believe the video fits the feel of the song and grabs your attention.

A couple years ago, I would have been on your side. I saw things like this as gimmicks for churches that really just care about numbers and not about growing people. About that time began attending a new church that I had been connected to over the years and had a great respect for. When I got here, I saw a church that was alive, thriving and not watering down the message, but was still using vehicles like this video to really enhance what they are doing. AND IT WORKS. Since then, I have become Assistant Media Director for this church and am seeing them continue to expand and reach this area like no one else is.

Sorry for the length, but I believe that it is important to give some perspective to the subject.

Old school religious dogma is not going to attract the attention of young people. If we are not relevant to the culture then we cannot reach the "cultured ones" of the world and bring them out. We are in the world not of it. We are here to have dominion over all things that includes music and culture, directing all things back to the Creator and the plan of salvation. Just like Mike said if we do not become relevant with the world we become an old wineskin that is seen as irrelevant and unrelational. It's all about relationship.

The question is…how did you make this?! I’d love to start trying to create things as fanciful as this! What software, system, extra sites or pic downloads, etc.

    • Jonathan Malm says:

It was actually super simple! I basically created one huge image with the lyrics and the whole map all together. I brought that image into After Affects, Motion, Premiere, or even Final Cut Express…then just used the motion effects to animate it and add extra titles over it.
