Dog Tag

Josh Scott from Midland Evangelical Free Church in Midland, Michigan brings us this big, cool dog tag necklace in the center of their stage. (Originally posted December 2012)

They titled their series “Heroes of Compassion”. They used eight ColorKey LED pars to light the set. They spent roughly $125 on slab lumber from a local lumber mill and another $150 on actual lumber for the vertical pieces. They had scrap fence loaned to them from a local fence company that they put behind to add a little extra texture.

While it was cheaper, it took a lot of time. He had three volunteers that put in over 40 hours in one week.

The screen was made out of extra styrofoam and covered in polystretch. They put pipe insulation on the outside edge of the dog tag to give it some depth. The chain was ball pit balls spray painted silver and threaded on to a wire.

Hope Floats Iconic Christmas

    WARNING! Troll comment!

Super ugly and does in no way make me feel either worshipful or think of God. 40 hours is a lot of time that could be used to help people. The time and money put into this set, that looks like something from a play, rather than uplifting like a worship space could be, is astounding. And why is the background dark? Christians are supposed to be people of the light, as stated so clearly so many times in Scripture. Let’s praise God and “prays” God in our worship times, not feel down trodden.

      Hi CSDI readers!
Unfortunately, internet trolls come in secular AND “christian” versions. This fellow is one of those. Let’s ignore this comment and choose not to return evil for evil. Because that’s what this is. It’s evil to take God off the throne and judge men’s hearts for yourself.
Let’s let God be our defender. He sees our hearts.

    • Thanks for the reminder. I think that this helps remind us of why we gather for worship together. Our small church puts time and money in how our stage looks and have had several sets that are similar to what is shown on CSD. If stage appearance is all we did I would be worried, but we are involved throughout our community sharing the Gospel in more places than I can count. How we make our stage look is in direct support that will help communicate the message of the Gospel that is preached and the worship that is done every time we meet together. We do praise God and pray to God every time we meet.

      God Bless

Stunning! I love how you highlighted one of the crosses, but if you look closely, there are many more! Beautiful composition, beautiful repurposing. Thank you so very much for sharing this great set! Blessings to you.

I love this. It is very tactile and engaging. The dynamic use of the dog tag is clever and would seem to keep it fresh throughout the service or from week to week. Good job!!

I heard this from one of Dave Ramsey’s bloggers, Annoymous users comments don’t count. cowardly actions. but they also come to you boldy in person sometimes too!
I recently had a member of our church (volunteer staff even,) confront me and and ask me “why don’t we have a cross anywhere on stage? All you see when you first come in is a drumset. How will be people know who / what we believe in and what to focus on during worship time?” My thought was seriously?!?! but my answer was, shouldn’t we all be reflecting Christ and his Love when we’re here – doesn’t that say more about us and who we worship than overtly Christian Symbolism plastered everywhere? If we have 20 crosses/ichtuses, and the like and we don’t reflect love when we meet people, then we’re still failing. We’re sometimes the Only Jesus people will see. I hope they don’t get see Jesus as a grumpy bitter guy who doesn’t like change, lol! anwyays, just a vent

I think you nailed it Jonathan! & God gave us these talents / desires to use them for his glory! should we bury them because a few don’t “get it?” I think not!

Thanks for your site and encouragement!
