Stage Designs

Cross = Love

Sean Pomory from Vineyard Community Church in Virginia Beach, VA brings us this heart and cross combo.

Sean borrowed the idea from Hillsong.

Cross Materials:

  • 1 Plywood Underlayment – $11.97
  • 6 Sticks of Furring Wood – $1.50 each
  • Blowtorch materials – $35.00

Equals Sign Materials:

  • 2 LED Strips – $11.77 each
  • 2 Sticks of Furring Wood

Heart Materials:

  • 2 Plywood Underlayment Boards
  • Leftover Trapeze Plus Spandex Material from another design

Side Sails Material:

  • Leftover Trapeze Plus Spandex Material (this stuff is awesome!)

The cross was constructed from the furring strips and then screwed together. They cut the underlayment into polygon shapes and nailed them in using a nail gun. Once it was all constructed, the team put a blow torch to the thing.

The equal sign was also made of furring. They laid the LED Strips on top of it and that was pretty much it.

The heart was made of the underlayment material as well, with a strip of furring material holding it together in the middle. Note, this was really flimsy and required two people to move it.

They used some kind of heavy duty metal wire that they had leftover from their recent renovation to hang the 3 pieces from the ceiling.

The back of all the pieces had these little plastic pieces that linked together once they get screwed together. Make sure if you do this for your church, don’t use plastic. Use metal. The last week of the design, the equals sign fell near the end of the last service, lasted 8 weeks and then fell. Fortunately no one was hurt.
