Christmas Ransom

Chad Hampton from Faith Center in Rockford, IL brings us this stage design that looks like a Christmas ransom note.

They built nine 4×4 light boxes using 1×6 lumber, plexi-glass with a frosted finish on one side, and white Coroplast. The 1×6 lumber was cut to size, then painted black on the outside and white on the inside to reflect light. They cut a 4-inch half circle on the tops of the boxes to secure the Chauvet SlimPar RGBA. Then they screwed the white sheet of Coroplast to the back of the box, and put the plexi-glass (glossy side out) to the front.

Then they mounted unistrut to three pieces of 12-foot high aluminum trussing and hung the boxes from it using eye bolts and s-hooks. Then they cut out the letters for “Christmas” using white Coroplast and stuck them to the plexi-glass using just clear packaging tape. Though they looked etched, it was that simple.

The total cost for the set ran them about $700 and took only 3 days to build and set up.

They were able to repurpose it for the new year too!
