Alexandria Parsley from Asbury United Methodist Church in Madison, AL brings us this gigantic stage backdrop.
Last Christmas, they set out to capture a more traditional feeling of Stained Glass and the Nativity Scene. Alexandria gave some vision, inspired by the annual Concordia College Christmas Concert Murals, to intern artist Julie Bartlow and she ran with it. Julie designed this beautiful watercolor and ink artwork to capture the story of the birth of Christ.
The original artwork was approximately 12in x 18 in. The creative team took high resolution photographs of portions of the artwork, in order to achieve a higher quality, and then loaded them into Photoshop to create a panoramic image. The artwork was then printed in-house on high quality paper into 12 strips measuring 42 in. wide x 16 ft. long. In order to suspend each strip, Alexandria sandwiched the top and bottom between two 1in x 4in furring strips and attached chains to the top. They staggered the panels to create depth in the mural. The final cost was approximately $250 including the paper, wood, and chains.
