Cheaper Legos

Vince Farrell from Christ Community Church in Hopkinsville, KY brings us another Lego design, only for even less expensive.

They went for a Lego theme in their “Together” message series. They opted to use refrigerator and dishwasher boxes instead of Coroplast. Their local Lowes and appliance shop were generous to keep some boxes aside for them.

For the interlocking pieces, they used large paper plates to trace circles onto 4×8 sheets of Styrofoam. It took 3 stacked on top of each other to get the desired height. Then they paper mache’ed them before painting to ensure the proper look.

They didn’t purchased anything, but the paint, styrofoam, and liquid starch could be purchased for $50.

They also built their own podium made from an off-brand Lego product.

Love the podium and so would our pastor! Thanks for the idea!

  2. Joshua Brown says:

What off brand lego company did you guys get to make the podium?

  3. justin says:

Where did you get the bigger legos for the podium?

  4. Bob Turner says:

We should be careful trying to “dress up” our service, building, & sermon so much that we distract from the gospel, thus overshadowing the cross, & somehow emptying its power from our message. (1 Cor. 1.17)

    • Steve Sisson says:

This was uncalled for. If you don’t think people should “dress up” the service, why are you even on the site?

    • Tim says:

      Bob,
I’m sorry you feel that way. Paul said he would become all things to all people so that some might come to know Christ. Do you know anything about the context of the church’s audience? How about the level of creative people they’re trying to engage and use their gifts for a greater purpose than their own gratification? Do you know anything about the content of their message? I would say it’s more important to judge the content than the context. Using that scripture and suggesting that a creative stage design of legos could empty the power from the message of truth sounds like a pretty weak message in the first place. God can use legos, lights, smoke, music, drab boring stages, long winded preachers, off pitch singers, and anything else to bring Him glory.
If you don’t like dressing up a stage, can I ask why you’re even on this site in the first place?

  5. Toby says:

What is the backdrop made out of?

  6. Josh says:

Where did you get the lager Legos for the pulpit? What brand are they?

  7. Matt says:

I know this has been awhile, but do you remember where you purchased the large bricks for the podium? There are many types out there and I just want to end the cheapest.
