Books

Stewart Linthicum from Albuquerque’s First Baptist Church in Albuquerque, NM brings us these giant books for their Vacation Bible School.

This year’s theme was The Story. They decided to use classic story books as a base for the design.

They made the book spines from 2X4s and thin particle board. They bent the boards across a frame made up of 2X4s so that the spine had a bow to them. They painted them and used Gold spray paint to accent the books. The spines were staggered on stage and attached to the walls. The sides of the books were made from fabric stretched across the frame.

The entire project cost approximately $450, and took a team of volunteers 2 1/2 days to complete.

Wow! This is an incredible backdrop. I was surprised at how easy (based on the description at least) it was to construct. Did that time include painting too?

I am going to pass this on to several of my theatre friends who do stage design and direction.
