Spandex Wedgies

spandex-wedgie

Is it just me, or does stretched spandex look somewhat like someone’s getting an atomic wedgie? No? Guess it’s just me. Regardless, check out this great use of stretched spandex from Shawn Begley at Orchard Grove Community Church in Walled Lake, Michigan.

The design uses five 4-point spandex shapes.

  • 2 blue 8′x12′
  • 2 white 10′x10′
  • 1 white 16′x12′

The wash lighting on the spandex was accomplished using 10 Colorblast 12TR and the light shapes were accomplished with gobos from 4 Varilite VL2500 Spots.

When you make stretched spandex like this, do you need to make a frame to stretch it around or just tie it off to the ceiling and floor? Kinda new to this stuff…

I'd be really interested to know how you connected the spandex also… great look!

Thanks for this post. We are trying to connect local NC churches with informative ideas to help them with their stage design, and other creative communication. Hope you continue to post great ideas, we will keep you bookmarked. Here is our site if you ever have any comments to add to anything we post about: http://blog.ncbaptist.org/creativeteam/2010/08/03…

Where is the best place to get spandex????

I’d say the best places woud be Dazian.com and RoseBrand.com. If you can find it locally you would save shipping…but I would compare the local prices you find to those sites.
